CHARLEROI, PA — Conspec Controls, a provider of fixed gas detection and safety monitoring solutions, today announced the release of its new Red Outstation mining / industrial network controller, along with an updated design for its Optio G multi-gas monitor. Both products are designed to support the evolving safety, monitoring, and automation needs of underground mining operations.
The new Red Outstation provides a centralized platform for monitoring and managing connected gas monitors in underground coal mining applications. The non-permissible communication and control device is designed for use in intake air outby the last open crosscut and enables mine personnel to monitor real-time gas conditions while integrating safety monitoring with centralized control and automation systems.
The Red Outstation is approved for underground applications under MSHA requirements and carries PA BOTE approval for use in Pennsylvania bituminous coal mines. It is designed to integrate with Conspec’s Optio-based gas detection systems and Senturion S950 SCADA platform, providing mine operators with centralized visibility into connected monitoring equipment.

The new Red Outstation provides a centralized communication and control platform for connected Optio-based multi-gas monitors. Designed for use in intake air outby the last open crosscut, the non-permissible controller enables remote monitoring and management of underground gas detection equipment and can integrate with Conspec’s Senturion S950 SCADA system.
A key enhancement is the Red Outstation’s new battery technology, which provides days of backup operation rather than hours. This extended runtime helps keep the network operational during prolonged power interruptions, maintaining access to critical gas monitoring information when reliable power is unavailable.
The Red Outstation can monitor and manage up to 1,476 sensors across 246 Optio-based multi-gas monitors and supports Modbus communication. Six onboard relays, remote 4–20 mA outputs, configurable control logic, and local alarming capabilities provide flexibility for ventilation control and other automated responses.
Alongside the Red Outstation launch, Conspec has also updated the design of its Optio G multi-gas monitor, continuing the company’s investment in its underground monitoring platform.
The Optio G provides real-time atmospheric monitoring and can support up to six sensors for detecting hazardous and combustible gases as well as other mine environmental conditions. The monitor can integrate with Conspec’s Senturion S950 SCADA platform and provides relays, 4–20 mA analog outputs, and Modbus RTU communication for monitoring, alarm management, and control applications.
The updated design is intended to provide mine operators with a rugged, flexible monitoring platform that can be configured around the specific conditions and hazards present in underground mining environments.
Together, the Optio G and Red Outstation provide a scalable architecture that can extend from individual monitoring points to mine-wide monitoring and control. The system can provide real-time atmospheric data to operators while supporting automated responses such as alarms and ventilation control.
